Tomas Ledin - Med vidöppna fönster (With Wide Open Windows...) Tomas Ledin has taken a
new step in assembling some of the country's best musicians from within
pop/rock, and jazz for his latest CD, ‘With Wide Open Windows’.
They include among others, Esbjörn Svensson on piano, Ola Gustafsson - guitar, Dan Berglund - double bass, Per Lindvall - drums and Mats Schubert, on organ The choice of this collection of musicians provides
the framework for the ‘sound’. “I see it as an
inspirational meeting and possibly the most enjoyable recording I’ve done.
We’ve tried to capture the moment, the energy and the atmosphere. In
principal, everything is recorded live”, says Tomas. These ‘wide open musicians’, have produced an
album with a more musical, and relaxed feel than on previous Ledin
productions. Tomas’s characteristic expressiveness has
blended with a variety of different influences in a natural way. A soothing
piano solo introduces one song while another song finishes with long languid
jazz improvisation. A steel guitar creates a distinct country feel in one
song while a distinctive American 70’s tone wafts through others. The initial intention was not to write songs that
fit into any particular category. “They’re basically pop/rock
songs in which we chose to incorporate other elements, courtesy of the
musicians’ contributions”, says Dan Hylander
who wrote several of the songs together with Tomas. Tomas Ledin rarely writes
together with others. “I always been something of a lone
wolf”, says Tomas. “However, in recent years I’ve wanted to
try a few different things as a challenge to myself”. During the autumn of 2001, Tomas began to write with
Dan Hylander. “We wrote for our own amusement without having
a definite goal in mind. It was really enjoyable and the songs just grew out
of the experience”, explains Tomas. When it comes to the choice of the musicians, Tomas had been
aware of EST, Esbjörn Svensson’s successful trio for some time. Tomas
was delighted when it looked like they would have some free days coinciding
with the album’s recording schedule. What Tomas didn’t know was that Esbjörn Svensson listened to
Tomas’s music. “I’d grown up with Ledin’s
music. When I was younger he was a role model for me as a song-writer and
performer, when I was writing songs in the genre.” Even though Esbjörn tours
the world with EST, he considers it hugely stimulating and great fun to be
involved in unexpected projects like this. He doesn’t believe that
there should be any boundaries in music. "With Wide Open Widows" is a new chapter
in a unique artist’s career. The coming together of Tomas, Esbjörn,
and the other musicians has resulted in another Ledin classic. Here is an experienced artist performing
12 new songs with... Wide Open Widows. The album is released on 3rd of march.

INDOOR TOUR - EVER! -We will spread a little light in the late winter
darkness, says a smiling Tomas Ledin. That’s
the way I started out, so there is logic to it that I bring it to a smaller
stage now. A concert performance with Ledin classics, a few lesser known songs
and surprises in the shape of brand new compositions by one of -It will be a bit more intimate. I see it as a very
tempting challenge to play indoors for a seated audience, says Tomas Ledin who began his career as a singer/songwriter for a
little more than 30 years ago. Musicians on the tour: Ove

material is taken from the six tours Ledin has made

2003 may EN MAN SOM ÄLSKAR - NEW SINGLE WITH LEDIN "En man som älskar"
is the name of Tomas Ledin's new single. A driving
and infectiously romantic rock song which you've hopefully already heard on
the radio. The single is taken from the live album "I sommarnattens ljus", which
will be released 2 June. The double-CD contains 25 Ledin
classics live, a medley of Swedish covers and four new studio tracks. Ledin has three current projects: a live album, a tour
and a DVD. This year's summer tour begins 10 July at Borgholm
with the same tight band as on the two latest tours. Tomas' recently released
DVD "Just då!" is the best selling
music-DVD in Sweden so far and 40 000 copies were sent to the stores (which
means gold). "En man som älskar"
is produced by Tomas Ledin and Lasse
Andersson and will have it's
premiere on Bingolotto 31 May. |
